Chepstow Bowling Club

Welcome to the our Club Web Site.

Season Over!!

Sadly the season came to a wet and windy end with no play possible on Closing day!. Don't be downhearted though - Christmas will soon be here!!

The Club Committee wishes to thank all members for their help and co-operation during the summer months. We have had one or two ups and downs but we got there in the end. Lets now look ahead to next year and the 12th of April when we can all start again.

Club Christmas Lunch

Following last years outstanding success, the annual Christmas Lunch has been booked for Sunday 16 December at The Huntsman in Shirenewton starting at 12.30pm. There are further details on the Notice Board in the Clubhouse. Places limited to 50.  Organiser - Mike Roy.

September Triples.

Another day - another Wally win!

Well done to Fred Nixon, Mary Shapland & Wally Gill on winning the September Triples from Adrian Lee, Sue Duke & Mark Handcock. Another last end job by Wally and his team!

Our thanks to all for staying the course and the loads of supporters who turned out not only today but throughout the course of the tournament.

John Bonsey Trophy.

The Trophy was won by Des James, Fred Dixon, Sue Duke & Wally Gill who beat Margaret James, Graham Horder, Neil Kennedy & Mike Dick on the last end in the Final. Thanks to all who supported the delayed final stages and a special thanks to Shirley Bonsey who presented the Trophy.

Saturday 8 September 2018

Monmouthshire Finals.  Mike Dick won the Monmouthshire Champion of Champions title at Blackwood this afternoon. Mike beat Barry Sansom of Caldicot in the Final. Mike, together with Paul Williams also played in the Final of the Open Pairs but narrowly lost an excellent game in damp conditions to Darren Baker & Steve Harris of RTB.

John Bonsey Trophy.

The Semi-finals and Final of the John Bonsey Trophy will be played on Saturday 15 September starting at 2.00pm. Players are requested to be at the green by 1.45pm.  Original games were abandoned to due rain on the scheduled date.

Impossible?   Chepstow  Bowling Club -  the club where anything is possible!

Saturday 1 September 2018 - Chepstow v RTB.

The Great Escape had nothing on this.  Seemingly doomed to relegation, the MBA side needed 11 out of 14 points from their game against the Monmouthshire Champions to stay in the top division. An outstanding performance by all the players saw them home with a point to spare.

Congratulations to all - it was a truly great team performance. And let us not forget those regular MBA players that were not able to play against RTB. They did their part in the results over the past few weeks which gained crucial points. Thanks to all. Well done !

Finals Day - Monday 27 August.

Bank Holiday Monday - weather - par for Holiday Monday!

Bowling - Excellent competitions finals by all. Thanks to all who supported their fellow players and a big thanks to all those who entered and supported the club throughout the year!

Club BBQ - Friday 3 August 2018

Weather - Fair to Good

Action - Plenty of it and plenty of food. Wine running low. More stocks needed.

Summary.  Nearly 100 Members and Guests attended on a warm Summers evening. Great success thanks to the work of Sue Duke and her team. Who won the Target Bowls? - a Guest! Back to the drawing board for the rest of us!!

Chepstow  Bowling Club Open Day.

Success !!   To date we have recruited 17 new members as a result of Open Day - and still counting ! Thanks to all those involved !

A great day for Open Day and nearly 50 people came to try out  our sport. We are hopeful that many of them will feel pulled to join us at the club. Many thanks to Sue and all her committee for all the work and to the members that came to encourage others to partake in what is after all a sport for ALL.

Follow up coaching sessions:-

Thurs.  14 June  6pm

Sun.     17 June 11am

Tues.   19 June  11am

Fri.      22 June   6pm

Sun     24 June 11am

We are always anxious to recruit new members and players and our Club Secretary would like to hear from you if you are interested in this excellent sport for ALL ages.

Lets hope the weather picks up by April 14. As I write it is freezing - but be positive!!!!

2018 will be a very busy season for us and we will require the full support of all our members. In addition to the Ladies and Mens League games (SW&MON, CASNEWYDD, WBA, MBA, GBL, OSL) we have Friendly games on nearly all Wednesdays and Thursdays throughout the season.

These Friendly games continue to be an outstanding success. The Triples format seems to suit everyone and travelling to all corners of Bristol, Somerset and Gloucester in addition to locally, give that added interest.

We have visits to Porthcawl and are hosting Weston Super Mare, Bath and a team from Basingtoke. Lets hope we get the weather.

We do need younger players and although we have a "large" membership, many of us are getting on in years - so please if you know some youngsters (relatively) who could be persuaded to take up the game bring them in for a taster session - free,

Friendly Games - Stacks of opportunities to play Friendly games, both Triples and Fours. Competitive but friendly encounters take us across into Bristol, Gloucestershire and Royal Forest of Dean. Also games in Cardiff and the Valleys.

Interested in trying a new sport?

If you are new to bowls and fancy a try please give our Secretary a call!
