Chepstow Bowling Club

The March open Ladies meeting will be held at

Chepstow Athletic Club on Wednesday 14th March

Commencing at 2pm

(Refreshments will be available)

This meeting is an opportunity for us to get together before the Opening of the green and

I urge all members and social members to attend.

The ladies held their Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 24th October. Twenty Seven ladies came to support this meeting which was brilliant. New Officers and Committee were appointed.

The bowling season again passed so quickly, as in other years, proved to be a season packed with fun, friendship and of course lots of bowling! There have been many opportunities to come together both socially and in sport.

Participation in the many varied bowling opportunities was strong in numbers. Ladies not only bowled regularly in the Leagues and in Friendly fixtures, but many represented Chepstow Ladies in County Competitions, Tournaments and in the Welsh Rinks. We also had representatives in County Matches.

Newer members were encouraged to join in the Club Competitions and Tournaments.  Having done so, as a result, there are many new winners' names on our club trophies.

The Casnewydd League Team fought their way through a challenging season, (mainly as a result of the weather and re-arranged fixtures), we finish in the top half of the table by the end of the season.

In the SW & Mon League our Ladies finished top of their section, losing only 1 out of 12 matches, and beating our nearest competitor by 30 points overall.

We have had wonderful support by all the lady members who helped provide a buffet for 70 people for a County Game held on Sunday 28th May and again also the County Triples Competition on Friday 9th June.  Also during the  SW & Mon League matches one of our ladies Rosemary has provided the teams with a brilliant tea which has always gone down well.

Again, this Season the Men's Greens Committee has done a brilliant job in keeping the grounds and the Green looking good for the whole season.

Our ladies would always welcome new bowlers, we would help develop your skills and coaching from experienced bowlers and you may borrow bowls from the club while you decide what is right for you.

If you are interested please give us a ring or just come and have a coffee with us for more information.

The Phyllis Crook Trophy was held on Friday 11th August, Ladies well supported this event it was a brilliant day.

After coffee the ladies played a game of Round Robin this was great fun.

A light lunch was provided at 1 p.m which was enjoyed by everyone.

Ladies Captains Day

Tuesday 4th July. Chepstow Ladies supported Captain's Day. It was a brilliant day, the weather was lovely and we enjoyed meeting our 12 guest's retired

bowlers and friends. During the afternoon we played bowls - this was great fun.

Members picked a number and played in different position than they normally

play, there was a lot of laughter on the green.

Everyone who attended was given a little gift on leaving as a thank you from the Captain.

The buffet food was provided by the members. What a selection cakes,

trifles, pastries, sandwiches and a platter of fruit! It was a lovely spread and this went down well with everyone.

Friday 23 June.   Welsh Double Rink at Briton Ferry.  The Chepstow  Ladies put up a great performance to beat Bridgend by 4 shots. Both rinks had good and not so good patches but played for each other and as a team. Weather was typical West Wales - rain but a fantastic win by our girls. Now for the Semi-finals and Final at Carmarthen on Friday 1 September  Roll on.

Sunday 28th May. The ladies from Chepstow hosted the SW & Mon v West Wales County games.

We welcomed over 70 people to our club, providing refreshments during the day and laying on a buffet at the CAC.

The weather was kind to us and the ladies enjoyed playing their games during the afternoon on 6 rinks. The day would not have been a success without the support from some of our male bowlers who kindly prepared the green and put out all the equipment ready for bowling.

We had a wonderful support by the Chepstow ladies who prepared all the buffet and help making everyone welcome during the day.

Monday 8th May  - we held  our first  coffee morning of the season with in the club house. It was well attended by members and friends who had the opportunity to buy plants, books and a variety of cakes which always go down well with the members. A big thank you to everyone that helped.

Sunday 7th May  - 3 of our ladies attended Tridwr ladies bowling club at Senghenydd to celebrate their 40th Anniversary. Newly appointed Councillor opened the afternoon and gave a short history of the club. Following this representatives from many clubs from the area then enjoyed an afternoon of bowling and a excellent buffet and draw.

Friday 5th May - two teams played in the Country rings competition, we are delighted that one team has got through to the semi-finals this will be taking place in August.
